Summer Solstice in Rockland, Maine

Yesterday, Rockland celebrated Summer Solstice in its usual fashion: by closing down Main Street for the evening and hosting a street fair. this annual event draws thousands from all over the area. There is music, dancing, games and some of the most amazing food from our local restaurants. This year marked the first annual pooch parade which opened the event.

2nd Annual Lobster Boat Race this Sunday

This Sunday, June 22nd, marks the second annual lobsters boat race here in Rockland. Lobstermen from all over midcoast Maine will come to Rockland harbor for the chance to win over $12,000 in prizes. Spectators will have a spectular view of the whole event from the breakwater. The races kick off at 1o a.m.

This Saturday marks the Summer Sostice Festival here in Rockland. The day kicks off with a book plant & bake sale on the lawn of the Rockland Public Library from 2 – 5 pm. Main Street will then be closed from 5 – 9 pm. There will be all different kinds of festivities on Main Street including a rock climbing wall and a monkey jump! Food vendors will be serving eveything from funnel cakes to sausage and peppers and several live music acts will be spread throughout the area. The highlight of the event will be a whoopie pie eating contest in front of the Rockland Cafe. This is not to be missed as different age groups compete to see who can stuff their faces with the most whoopie pies. It is absolutely hysterical!! Last year drew in excess of 5000 people. Youthlinks will also have a balloon dropping fundraiser. Last year, Frank has the pleasure of being one of the volunteers to get soaked. This picture is from just before he got hit!! It’s gonna be a really fun day and is one of the many reasons Rockland rocks!!
