Saturday, July 17th, 2010Our last project of the Quiet Season
Tuesday, May 11th, 2010We’ve finally finished a long overdue project and replaced the carpeting in the dining room, back hallway and guest pantry. We were dying to see what was underneath because some old photos of the inn showed that there was some pretty intricate detail work done on the floors.

Frank starts removing the old carpet.

Interesting floor details.

All the old carpet completely removed.
As was very common in older homes, at least in Maine, rough wood was used in the center of the room knowing that you would always have an area rug. That’s the Yankee mentality!!

New padding made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles....how green of us!!

New carpet installed.

Humpty Dumpty put all back together again. Just in time for a full house of guests tonight!!
Crabmeat Quiche
Sunday, April 25th, 2010One of our most loved dishes at LimeRock Inn is Frank’s Crabmeat Quiche. In fact, one of our guests this morning said it was the best quiche she’s ever had. It really is quite simple so we thought we’d share the recipe here. I apologize for the rough photo as it was taken with my phone this morning! It’s really much prettier than it appears here.

Crabmeat Quiche
3 large eggs
4 ounces Swiss cheese (shredded)
¼ cup finely chopped onion
½ cup mayonnaise
5 ounces lump crab meat
Salt & pepper
9 inch tart dish
Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out your favorite pie crust as thin as possible and lay over tart dish after coating with non-stick baking spray. Fold edges over into dish and press into the edge to create the outer pie crust. Evenly distribute chopped onion and shredded Swiss cheese over the pie crust. In a small mixing bowl, combine eggs, mayonnaise, crab meat, salt & pepper, to taste. Add egg mixture to pie crust and bake in pre-heated oven for 45 minutes. Serve warm. (Tip: After baking and turning off the oven, cover the quiche with aluminum foil in the oven to keep it warm until serving.)
Key LimeRock Pie at LimeRock Inn
Sunday, November 8th, 2009Way back in June, we spent a few days with some travel writers that came to Rockland as part of Historic Inns of Rockland FAM tour. I heard the term FAM tour before, but always wondered what it meant. FAM is abbreviated for familiarization. Now, the light comes on in my head.
Anyway, the Tandem Tasters are part of the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association. Maralyn and Brenda stopped by one afternoon to watch me make Key LimeRock Pie. We had a lot of fun, and they seemed to enjoy the tasting part too.
Historic Inns of Rockland are hosting the 6th annual Pies on Parade in January 2010. If it sounds yummy to you too, think about coming to Rockland next January for a taste.
The world is VERY small!!
Wednesday, October 7th, 2009Over the five years we’ve been innkeepers, we’ve had many wonderful encounters with guests. In addition, the guests have wonderful encounters with each other. You’ve all heard of the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, well it seems that in the world there are far fewer degrees (although not neccesarily to Mr. Bacon!)
This morning we had one of the most bizarre and amazing coincidences of peoples paths crossing. There is an Aunt and neice visiting from the UK, one lives in England and the other Scotland. We also had a newlywed couple from NYC. After breakfast, the neice approached me to ask if the NYC couple, whom she’d not met, had just gotten married in Central Park. You see, prior to arriving at the inn, the aunt and neice had spent some time in New York City and toured Central Park. While there, a wedding was taking place in the Shakespeare Garden and they decided to stay around a bit to watch the bride and groom have their photos taken. Well, when this young couple walked into the dining room this morning, the neices jaw nearly fell to the ground as she thought this was the couple that she witnessed getting married in Central Park. A short while later, the couple confirmed that they indeed did get married and it was the same ceremony viewed by the aunt and neice.
Now I ask you, what are the coincidences that both sets of people would end up here are the LimeRock Inn in Rockland on the same date? It is just amazing and is one of the many reasons we love what we do!!!
LimeRock Inn on If Walls Could Talk
Wednesday, July 8th, 2009Two years ago, we were featured on HGTV’s If Walls Could Talk. It was a really fun show to be a part of although we filmed for 13 hours straight for about a 13 minute segment!! Enjoy the video below!
Press Tour this week
Monday, June 22nd, 2009Each year, the His
toric Inns of Rockland host a press tour for national media. We have a great lineup of writers coming on the tour this year. They will get to experience some of the best things in Rockland including our museums, restaurants and outdoor activities. Three years ago, our press tour was capped off with a lobster bake in the back garden of the Captain Lindsey House. A food editor from Woman’s Day magazine took this very funny picture of me. I don’t normally don this type of getup when eating lobster but for some reason the mood struck me this particular evening. We all look forward to another successful tour!
Frank on TV….again!
Monday, January 12th, 2009
Today, Frank went down to Portland to do a cooking segment taping for the WCSH6 show “207″. It’s a daily news magazine that focuses on all things Maine. Frank has been on before demonstrating how to make gingerbread houses and was invited down again to demonstrate how to make his Key LimeRock Pie. The segment will also help promote this years Pies on Parade event that takes place on the 25th.
On on interesting side note, while Frank was on the way down to Portland, he got a call from the local NBC news reporter for some quotes on the Cruise Ship industry here in Rockland. Frank is the chamber cruise committee chairman and he was featured in a story on this evening’s news. Since Frank was already in the Portland news station, they just interviewed him there. Leave it to Frank!
